Chocolate on Chocolate

This cake was for Nick Allen's mother's birthday. I had so much fun creating this design with carmels, chocolate chip and icing.

Classic White for my classy sister!

Niccole decided she wanted a chocolate cake for her birthday. I tried something new with one of my tips to achieve the ribbon look around the edges. A sprinkle of coconut for the top and some white chocolate chips around the flower!

Cake for Oktoberfest!

I was asked by the MGH Storks to make a cake to help raise funds for the Lactation Center (a place very helpful to me when Lucas was born). I made this carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. I love decorating with frosting. More delicious edible goodness.

Albert's First

This will be baby Albert's first cake so I made him chocolate! I can't wait to see the after pictures!! I made the last 2 cakes from square pans to practice making a tiered cake. I also need to practice my writing!!! Once you start you can't stop. I wish there was an easy delete button, but it helps me be ok with imperfection, ha!

Laura Allen's Birthday!

I made this chocolate cake for my good friend Laura Allen whose birthday is today. Her daughter pals around regularly with Lucas. Check out Laura's amazing photography at NickandLauraPhotography.

Matt's 35th

I made a carrot cake with cream cheese icing for Matt's 35th. They partied it up at a Mexican place in SF, hence the cactus.

Birthday Cake for Katie

After I made Jesse's carrot cake, some orders came in from McGuire folks! This is also a carrot cake for Katie's 25th birthday. I heard she liked poodles so I got this little decoration for her at Cake Art - a great cake place in our downtown.

Baby Cake for Baby Menayan

Eric's co-worker, Jesse and his wife Sally are expecting a baby in August. I made this bird carrot cake for his baby shower. I love the way the little bird legs turned out. My bird inspiration comes from Mill Valley Baby and Kids.

Jon's Birthday

I met Mimi at a play group when Lucas was just a wee tot. For her husband, Jon, I made a chocolate cake with buttercream frosting. Jon and Mimi are musicians and have a sweet boy, Charlie. Check out their record label: parksandrecords

Birthday Cake for Traci

The carrot cake makes a comeback for Nick Allen's sister, Traci. I made this cake for Nick and Laura's daughter, Riley, for her first birthday.

Cock-cakes for Lauren's bachlorette

For the bachelorette party I had to do something festive with cake. Please excuse the name and pardon the somewhat offensive photo below. Know any bachelorettes in the SF Bay area? I'm happy to make some more. They were a hit.

4th of July

This vanilla cake may look good but the taste left something to be desired. I tried a recipe from an untrusted source which said it was the easiest best tasting cake they had ever made. This person doesn't know or like cake very much. I realize the reward comes from the work!

Jan's Birthday!

I had so much fun making this banana cake with cream cheese frosting for my wonderful mother in law. We had the pleasure of having her with us for her birthday. I was inspired for this pattern by her cute blue slippers. Off to the park today to share leftovers with some friends!

Lauren's Bridal Shower

I designed this simple floral decoration to match Lauren's wedding invitation. I had a rough time with the flowers and removed the green one 3 times. Was it the icing or the fact I was on 5 hours of sleep the night before and had a hangover? Chocolate cake with buttercream. It was delicious!

Bike Wheel for EJ

I made EJ a chocolate/chocolate cake for his birthday. In honor of his love of cycling, I decided to create a bike wheel out of white chocolate. The geometry of my wheel spokes leaves something to be desired. Can't wait to see how it tastes!

My sister Niccole with her husband, EJ and my son, Lucas

Cupcakes

I couldn't stop baking tonight so made some cupcakes for Riley's day too - just in case!

Riley Allen's First Birthday

I had so much fun making Riley our favorite carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. The polka dots are made with fondant. This was my first time working with fondant...it's like playdough for big people. The photos below are of the cake's secret ingredient and the inspiration behind the cake design (the party napkins and a picture of a plate I found online). I also found I love working with butter much better than vegetable shortening. I'm ready to venture into the world of real good fat.

A rose is a rose

Today we practiced making roses. It's hard work squeezing icing from a pastry bag! I loved the way the roses looked on my chocolate icing but the stems were a different story. (not shown in photo) This cake came home for us to sample. Since it was our last cake in our first cake course, I figured we should try it and share it with friends.

Practicing flowers

I wanted to try a pink cake this week. It's a chocolate cake with bananas in the middle layered with chocolate cream. It found a home at a bbq hosted by one of the mom's in my mother's club.

Adventures in Cake Making

Here is my first run, April 18, 2009
White cake with buttercream frosting. Our lesson was mixing colors and learning drop stars. I like to call this the "San Francisco Cake". The colorful rainbow seems fitting.

When Lucas turned 1, my sister Cathy came to CA and gave me my first decorating lesson. This is what we made! (She did the writing!)
