It is a hobby

While I love to make cake, life has kept me busy. I make cakes for my kids, friends and causes. This past year, we relocated our family to Crozet, VA and are thrilled about being a part of this budding community.
I offer 8" round cakes in the following flavors; chocolate, banana and carrot.

TMNT! Lucas is 6...

My last post was 2011. Yikes! A move to an older home with a small kitchen and the birth of our second baby Sylvie, now 2 and 1/2, forced a leave of absence on Jennifer's Cakes. Dishes with 2 young children never end. I've been sewing more but am happy to have rekindled my love for making and decorating cake this past weekend. Wow, chocolate cake, I've missed you. This was taken with the hipstamatic lens on my iphone. I used spray paint icing for the edges. FUN!

For those of you without 6 year old boys, TMNT stands for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles of course! Nothing too fancy for our family cake. We left that up to the local bakery to explode sugar creations and gaudiness on the cake for his kid party.

Rebecca and Dave are getting married!

Today was my first wedding cake tasting. I love the textured look of the icing and the simplicity of the design from Rebecca's inspiration photo. Whipped cream cheese frosting was light and had just the right amount of sweetness for carrot cake. It worked beautifully. The cake I made for the tasting is a double layer 8" round.

Here was her inspiration photo:
And my creation:
I just loved the way the light came in right before they showed up so I took this pic too!

Baby Shower for Dana!

Dana is having twins! I decorated her cake with those sweet little shiny balls- one pink, one blue, one gold - all the way around the cake. Blue for boy, pink for girl and gold for mommy!

Leo Michael's Baptism

It was a hot summer so there wasn't much going on in my kitchen. Then it was a gorgeous fall and I was outside as much as possible. With the cooler air arriving, I think I will be baking more. This is a banana cake with cream cheese frosting! Aren't those little silver balls so sweet? The things we can do with sugar!

Pumpkin... in yogurt, in a smoothie!

It has nothing to do with cake but I wanted to share it anyway... I love this time of year and I bake a lot of pumpkin bread and I always have leftover pumpkin! So.... here's what you do...
Make Pumpkin Yogurt:
Mix plain yogurt with canned pumpkin. Add a bit of maple syrup, cinnamon, ground cloves and you have a delicious fall yogurt! (My son loves this). If you'd like, mix in some other already flavored yogurt for additional sweetness although the syrup is perfect. Enjoy!
Make a Pumpkin Smoothie:
Add a heaping spoonful of your canned pumpkin into a banana strawberry smoothie. Add frozen fruit, almond milk, plain yogurt and a bit of OJ.

Lucas is 2!

My sweet baby turned two April 4th. We coupled his birthday with our going away party and on April 11, 2010 we moved from San Rafael, CA (just north of San Francisco) to Cincinnati! This was my first 2 tier cake and I was very pleased how it turned out.

Birthday Cake for Betty!

My first cake in Cincinnati! Thank you to Nancy and Janie of the Row House Gallery for the opportunity to make this banana cake for Betty!
